What Are Heirloom Portraits?

Heirloom portraits are classic, intentional portraits that focus entirely on your child—without trends, props, or distractions. Clean backgrounds, soft light, and thoughtful composition allow their features, expressions, and quiet personality to take center stage.

These portraits are created with longevity in mind. Rather than reflecting what’s popular right now, heirloom portraits are designed to remain timeless, becoming meaningful artwork you’ll proudly display and pass down within your family.

About the Annual Heirloom Portrait Mini Event

This annual heirloom portrait event takes place once per year and offers a petite version of my signature heirloom experience. Sessions are intentionally short and thoughtfully paced, while still maintaining the same level of care, artistry, and attention to detail found in my full heirloom sessions.

  • Grandparents looking for meaningful artwork of their grandchildren

What to Expect During Your Session

Heirloom mini sessions are calm, simple, and child-led. There is no pressure for perfect smiles or stiff posing. I gently guide each child while allowing space for natural expressions and subtle moments to unfold.

Each heirloom portrait mini event session includes:

  • A brief, efficiently paced studio session
  • One child photographed per time slot
  • Classic styling guidance provided in advance
  • A cohesive, polished final gallery

Due to the petite nature of this event, sessions are best suited for children who can sit independently.

Styling for Heirloom Portraits

Wardrobe plays a key role in the timeless look of heirloom portraits. Soft neutrals, traditional silhouettes, and minimal patterns photograph beautifully and keep the focus where it belongs—on your child.

Prior to the heirloom portrait mini event, families receive detailed styling guidance along with access to select pieces from my curated client wardrobe. Pieces are prepared ahead of time to ensure everything is pressed, cohesive, and ready for a seamless experience.

Investment & Collections

This mini event is designed to be a more accessible entry point into heirloom portraiture while still offering tangible artwork you can enjoy for years to come.

Collections begin at $375 and include fine art prints and matching digital images. Three thoughtfully curated collections are available, allowing families to choose the level of artwork that best fits their home and vision. Additional heirloom products may be added after your session.

Full collection details and artwork options are shared on the booking page once registration opens.

Louisville, Kentucky Heirloom Portrait Photographer

If you’re a parent in Louisville, you already know how precious this season feels—wide-eyed wonder, traditions your little ones will remember forever, and the excitement of seeing Santa in real life. That’s exactly why 2025 Santa photos in Louisville have become such a special yearly tradition for so many families, and honestly… it’s one of my favorite things I offer all year.

As a mama myself, I know how fast these ages pass. One minute they’re wobbling toward Santa with that unsure little smile, and the next they’re whispering their entire Christmas list like it’s the most serious conversation of their life. My goal with these sessions is to bottle that sweetness up for you—without the chaos, long lines, or rushed mall experience.

What Makes My Santa Minis Different

My Santa Minis are intentionally designed to feel calm, warm, and truly magical. You’ll come into the studio, hang up your coats, and settle into a cozy space where your child gets a few real minutes with Santa—no pressure, no rules, just sweet interaction and natural moments.

This year’s set is classic, simple, and designed to put the focus on your child’s expressions and connection with Santa. Think soft textures, warm tones, and a timeless look that will still feel beautiful years from now.

Perfect for Busy Families (Especially Last Minute!)

If you’re still searching for 2025 Santa photos in Louisville and thought you missed your chance—don’t worry, you haven’t. I have a handful of openings left for next weekend, and I’d love to make room for your family before the season gets too busy.

These sessions are short and sweet (perfect for little attention spans), and you’ll walk away with images that truly feel like your child—not stiff poses or forced smiles.

Why Parents Love These Santa Minis

Beyond the beautiful photos, parents keep coming back for one big reason: the experience is just easy.
• No hour-long lines
• No overstimulation
• No rushed “next!” feeling
• A real, gentle Santa your kids feel comfortable with
• A photographer who totally understands tiny humans (and all their moods)

What to Expect After Booking

Once your Santa Mini is on the calendar, the rest is simple. A few days before your session, you’ll receive a short reminder email with everything you need to know—arrival time, parking info, and a quick rundown so you feel totally prepared.

For outfits, I always recommend keeping things classic and neutral so the focus stays on your little one and their sweet interaction with Santa. Soft creams, deep greens, cozy knits, simple plaids—anything that feels timeless will photograph beautifully. And don’t stress if you’re pulling outfits together last minute (that’s most of us this time of year!) You truly can’t go wrong with something comfortable and simple.

Plan to arrive just a few minutes early so your child has time to warm up to the studio space. No need to rehearse anything or practice smiles; natural moments are always the sweetest.

A Magical, Low-Stress Santa Experience

When you walk in, you’ll immediately notice how peaceful the space feels. No long lines, no loud crowds—just a warm, cozy setup designed to let your child take their time. Whether they’re shy, excited, or somewhere in between, Santa is incredibly gentle and intuitive with little ones.

These sessions are short but meaningful, giving your child a genuine moment with Santa that feels calm and magical. You’ll be able to soak it all in—those sparkly eyes, the tiny conversations, or even that hesitant little smile that always ends up being a favorite.

My goal is for you to walk out thinking, “Wow, that was so easy.” And year after year, that’s exactly what parents tell me.

If you’ve ever asked yourself when the best time is to schedule your family photos in Louisville, let me tell you: spring and early summer win my heart every time.

As a family photographer, I work all year long — but there’s something extra special about this season. After months of gray skies, chilly temps, and being cooped up indoors, spring and early summer feel like a deep breath of fresh air. The trees bloom, the grass turns lush and green, and golden hour stretches a little longer. Everything — and everyone — just seems to come alive.

Why I Love Shooting Family Photos This Time of Year

  • Nature shows off. Louisville’s parks and neighborhoods are in full bloom — think cherry blossoms, dogwoods, tulips, and soft, dreamy backdrops that don’t need any props.
  • Mild weather = happy kids (and parents!). No one’s sweating or shivering. Everyone’s just… comfortable. And trust me, that makes a world of difference when trying to get natural, relaxed smiles.
  • Golden hour magic. The light during this time of year is soft, warm, and oh-so-flattering. Evening sessions especially have that dreamy glow that makes photos feel timeless.
  • Everyone’s ready to get outside. After winter hibernation, spring brings a natural energy. Families are excited, kids want to play, and that joy shines through in every image.

Book Early — I Fill Up Fast in Spring and Summer!

Here’s the deal: because this season is so ideal for photos, it’s also my busiest time of year. My calendar fills up quickly — especially for weekend sessions. If spring or early summer photos are on your list this year, now’s the time to snag your spot.

Ready to make some memories in the sunshine?

Let’s capture your family at their happiest — outdoors, relaxed, and surrounded by Louisville’s natural beauty.

Reach out to book your spring/summer session today!

I get it—figuring out what to wear for spring family photos can feel overwhelming. As a mom, you’re already juggling a million things, and now you have to coordinate outfits that look beautiful, timeless, and put together? It’s a lot!

But here’s the good news: it doesn’t have to be stressful. Over the years, I’ve learned a few simple tricks (from both personal experience and photographing so many families) that make choosing outfits so much easier. My goal is always to help my clients feel confident and relaxed, knowing their photos will look effortlessly classic.

So, if you’re staring at your closet feeling stuck, here’s my best advice for what to wear for spring family photos in Louisville—and how to make the process feel totally manageable.

1. Start with You (Yes, Mom!)

I always tell my moms: pick your outfit first. Let’s be real—if you feel amazing, the whole experience is going to be more enjoyable. Plus, it’s easier to coordinate the rest of the family around your look rather than scrambling to match everyone at the last minute.

A timeless, flowy dress in a soft pastel or neutral is always a winner for spring. I personally love pieces with texture—think light lace, linen, or soft embroidery—because they add beautiful dimension to photos. And if dresses aren’t your thing, a tailored blouse with a long skirt or classic trousers works just as well!

2. Keep the Color Palette Soft & Airy

Spring is all about fresh, light colors that reflect the beauty of the season. Soft pastels like blush, baby blue, sage green, and buttery yellow look stunning in photos. Neutral shades like cream, taupe, and light gray also complement spring’s natural brightness.

One of my biggest regrets from a past family session was wearing a really bold color. At the time, I thought it would pop in photos—but years later, it just feels loud and distracting. That’s why I always suggest sticking to a soft, complementary palette that enhances your family’s connection instead of competing with it.

3. Dress Dad in Classic, Simple Layers

Let’s be honest—most dads aren’t thrilled about taking photos, so let’s keep things easy for them. A light button-up shirt or sweater with well-fitted chinos is all he needs for a polished yet effortless look. Layers (like a pullover or blazer) can add texture without making it complicated.

One tip? Avoid anything with logos, graphics, or super bold patterns. Trust me, even the tiniest logo can stand out in a final image and take away from the cohesive, timeless feel of spring portraits.

4. Keep the Kids Cute and Comfortable

If there’s one thing I’ve learned as both a photographer and a mom, it’s that kids do best when they’re comfy. There’s nothing worse than an itchy outfit that makes them miserable during the session.

For little ones, I always recommend classic, heirloom-inspired clothing—smocked dresses, linen rompers, or simple overalls in soft spring colors. These styles not only photograph beautifully but also let your child move and play naturally, making the session feel more relaxed and fun.

5. Add Texture, Not Overpowering Patterns

Texture is everything in photos. Light embroidery, delicate ruffles, or a soft knit sweater can add so much depth and interest without being distracting.

If you want to incorporate a pattern, keep it subtle and have just one person wear it—like a floral dress for mom or a tiny plaid detail on your child’s outfit. The goal is to enhance the look, not overwhelm it. This is especially important when deciding what to wear for spring family photos in Louisville because softer, more natural details blend beautifully with outdoor settings.

6. Keep Accessories Minimal

Less is more when it comes to accessories. A dainty necklace, simple earrings, or a neutral headband for your daughter can add a nice touch, but anything too bold or trendy can take away from the classic look.

I once wore chunky statement earrings for a session, thinking they’d add a fun element. But in every single photo, they dominated the frame! Now, I always recommend keeping accessories understated so they complement rather than compete with your portraits.

7. Dress for the Spring Weather

Spring weather can be unpredictable, so it’s important to dress accordingly. If your session is early in the season, layering with a light cardigan or denim jacket can keep everyone comfortable without sacrificing style. Breezy dresses and breathable fabrics like cotton and linen work best as temperatures warm up.

The key? Dress for the season in a way that feels natural. You want your outfits to match the fresh, airy feel of springtime while keeping everyone comfortable throughout the session.

8. Plan Ahead (Trust Me, It Helps!)

Laying out outfits ahead of time will save you stress. I’ve been that mom frantically throwing together outfits the night before a session, and let me tell you—it’s not fun. I don’t want anything to spoil the experience of our time together, and waiting until the last minute to look at everything together can set you up for stress and bad vibes – the last emotions you want to be feeling when trying to take beautiful photos you’ve invested in.

A little preparation goes a long way. Try everything on in natural light, make sure everyone’s clothes coordinate, make sure everything FITS, and do a quick test photo on your phone. You’ll feel so much more confident walking into your session knowing everything looks just right.

Final Thoughts

At the end of the day, the best family photos are the ones that feel like you. The goal isn’t to look perfect—it’s to feel comfortable, connected, and present with your family.

If you ever need outfit advice, I’m always happy to help! My job isn’t just to take beautiful photos—it’s to make the experience easy and enjoyable for you.

As a mom, you already know how fast the first few years fly by. One minute, you’re holding a tiny newborn in your arms, and the next, you’re chasing a wobbly toddler who’s suddenly too independent for their own good. Bringing a baby into the world is one of the most magical experiences, and I absolutely love capturing those fleeting moments in the comfort of your home. There’s just something special about photographing you in your own space—where you’ll rock your baby to sleep, snuggle on the couch as a family, and soak in those early newborn days. But I know what you’re thinking… “My house isn’t picture-perfect! How do I even prepare for this?” Don’t worry—I’ve got you! Here’s my expert advice on how to prepare your home for an in-home maternity or newborn shoot in Louisville (and spoiler: it’s way easier than you think!).

1. Find the Best Natural Light

Light is everything in photography! Before your session, take note of the rooms with the best natural light—big windows and bright spaces are ideal. If you’re considering an in-home session, I’ll have you send me photos of those spaces first. If the lighting isn’t ideal, I’ll be honest—your images won’t match my portfolio, and I want you to love your photos! It’s not about how gorgeous your home is; it’s simply the way light and cameras work. In those cases, I’ll suggest we use the private studio instead!

2. Tidy Up (But No Deep Cleaning Required!)

Let me be clear: You do not need a spotless home for your session! Trust me, I’m a mom too, and I know life with kids (and pregnancy) is messy. Instead of worrying about a deep clean, just focus on clearing clutter from the areas we’ll be using. That means tossing extra blankets, diapers, or random items into a laundry basket and tucking them in a closet. Simple, right?

3. Neutral Colors Work Best

Soft, neutral tones make for dreamy, timeless photos. If you have brightly colored bedding or busy patterns in the background, consider swapping them for whites, creams, or pastels. This helps keep the focus on you and your baby, rather than the surroundings.

4. Set the Scene for Cozy Moments

I want your session to feel natural and relaxed, so think about what makes you feel cozy. Soft blankets, textured throws, and even a favorite mug of coffee can add a warm, lived-in feel to your photos. For newborn sessions, a simple white or light-colored swaddle and a cozy baby blanket are all you need. Maternity sessions? A flowing dress and a comfy couch make magic happen.

5. Keep Outfits Simple and Comfortable

Speaking of outfits—comfort is key! Stick to neutral, solid colors, and avoid anything with bold logos or busy prints. Bare feet, cozy knits, and soft fabrics always look beautiful in home sessions. And yes, pajama snuggles with your newborn are totally encouraged!

6. Warm Up the Room for Baby

Newborns love warmth, so I always suggest bumping up the thermostat a little before your session. A cozy baby is a happy baby, which means more sweet, sleepy poses!

7. Expect to Go with the Flow

One of the biggest perks of an in-home maternity or newborn session is how relaxed and natural it feels. There’s no rush, no pressure—just genuine moments with your family. Newborns might need extra snuggles, diaper changes, or feeding breaks, and that’s totally okay. I’ll guide you every step of the way, making sure we capture the most heartfelt moments, no matter what the day brings.

8. Embrace the Imperfection

Here’s my biggest piece of advice: Don’t stress about perfection. Your home doesn’t need to look like a magazine spread, and your baby doesn’t need to “behave.” Some of the most beautiful moments happen in the in-between—your toddler kissing the baby’s forehead, a quiet moment of you rocking your newborn, or laughter over a spilled coffee (yes, it happens!). These are the memories you’ll cherish forever.

Ready to Capture the Magic?

I hope this guide on how to prepare your home for an in-home maternity or newborn shoot in Louisville helps ease any stress and gets you excited for your session! I promise, it’s all about embracing the love, the chaos, and the realness of this season in your life. If you’re ready to book or have any questions, reach out—I’d love to chat!

If you’re looking for a fun, interactive, and comfortable spot to watch the show, ThunderBlast is a fantastic choice!

3. The Meijer Family Fun Zone at Waterfront Park (This one’s FREE!)

The Meijer Family Fun Zone is the perfect spot for families to enjoy Thunder Over Louisville 2025 with plenty of kid-friendly entertainment. Now located at Waterfront Park, this designated area offers inflatables, face painting, games, and interactive activities to keep little ones entertained all day. With easy access to food vendors, restrooms, and plenty of space to spread out, the Meijer Family Fun Zone makes Thunder more enjoyable for parents and kids alike. I will say, the viewing experience for the fireworks show could be better. It’s a little too far down the river in my opinion. But with free admission with a Pegasus pin, you can’t really complain. If you’re looking for a stress-free, fun-filled experience, this family-friendly zone is a must-visit!

Pro tip: Pack noise-canceling headphones for little ones! The fireworks can be loud, and having a way to muffle the sound can make a huge difference.

4. Falls of the Ohio State Park – A Hidden Gem

For a more relaxed, nature-filled Thunder experience, head over to Falls of the Ohio on the Indiana side. It’s not as packed as Waterfront Park, and the kids can explore the fossil beds and trails before the show starts. The fireworks view is still fantastic, but it feels a little more peaceful—perfect for families with younger kids.

Pro tip: Bring bug spray! Being near the water at night means mosquitoes will make an appearance.

5. Louisville Slugger Field’s Thunder Viewing Party (Great for Baseball Fans)

If you want to pair Thunder with America’s favorite pastime, Louisville Slugger Field hosts a family-friendly viewing party with a baseball game, activities, and a perfect view of the fireworks. It’s a ticketed event, but having actual seats (and bathrooms nearby) can make a world of difference when you’ve got little ones in tow.

Pro tip: Check the game schedule! Sometimes they offer post-game activities just for kids.

6. “Thunder at the Kentucky Center” at The Kentucky Center for the Performing Arts

Experience Thunder Over Louisville 2025 in style at the Kentucky Performing Arts Center’s “Thunder at the Center” event. There’s something about watching the sky light up over the river that instantly takes me back to my childhood—setting up our chairs on the Belvedere lawn and sitting way up high on my dad’s shoulders, soaking in the awe of the fireworks with a perfect view.

If you’ve been before, where’s your favorite spot to watch? Let me know—I’m always looking for new places to check out!

And speaking of memorable moments, why not capture some of your own? I am a Louisville family photographer, and if you’re looking to capture a special moment in time with your family, I’d love to help. Head over to my home page to learn more and book your family shoot today! Let’s create some heirloom memories that will last a lifetime.

One of the best parts of being a Shelbyville family photographer is getting to step into my clients’ homes and document their lives in the places that mean the most to them. There’s something so special about in-home sessions—no studio backdrop can replace the warmth of a nursery, the coziness of a well-loved couch, or the way natural light filters through the windows where a family gathers every day.

Recently, I had the joy of photographing a beautiful family as they welcomed their sweet baby boy, Wesley, into their home. From the moment I walked in, I could feel the love they had for him, and hearing their story made the session even more meaningful.

The Story Behind Wesley’s Name

One of my favorite parts of newborn sessions is getting to know each family’s story—especially how they chose their baby’s name. When I asked Wesley’s mom, Baylee, about it, she said, “My husband, Jacob, was just obsessed with the name Wesley! And it’s in the family.”

His middle name, Judah, carries even more meaning. “Judah is the name of one of Jacob’s sons in the Bible and means ‘praise’!” she shared. I love when names have such deep significance—it makes them feel even more special.

An Unexpectedly Quick Arrival

Every birth story is unique, and Wesley’s was no exception! Baylee admitted she had no clue she was so close to meeting him. “I was getting discouraged, thinking I wasn’t anywhere close to giving birth. Then my husband saw something strange and went to get the nurse. She said, ‘No, that’s his hair! He’s coming right now!’”

Just seven minutes of pushing later, Wesley was in their arms. “I was so surprised and thankful!” she said. Hearing stories like this always reminds me how unpredictable (and miraculous) birth can be!

The Sweetest Little Details

During a session, I’m always curious to see who the parents think baby looks most like. When I asked Baylee, she instantly said, “Oh, he definitely looks like Jacob’s family!” It’s always so fun to see which features little ones inherit.

And let’s talk about pregnancy cravings—because they always make for the best stories! Wesley’s mom told me that during the first trimester, she couldn’t get enough pancakes and baked goods, but by the second and third, it was all about meat and protein. The way our bodies change during pregnancy is wild!

The Beauty of Parenthood

As we moved through the session, I asked what they’ve loved most about being parents so far. Her answer was beautiful:

“Just the purpose that the role of parenting has! It requires you to work hard, be stretched thin, be childlike, and love unconditionally. It’s all worth it for these precious little ones.”

That sentiment is exactly why I love photographing families—parenthood is messy, exhausting, and full of unexpected moments (like never going to the bathroom alone again, as Baylee joked!). But through it all, it’s the greatest gift.

Why I Love In-Home Sessions

Photographing this sweet family in their home made everything feel that much more personal. The soft light in the nursery, the way they cuddled in their master bedroom, and the quiet moments in between—it was all so natural and heartfelt. That’s the magic of an in-home session. It allows families to be fully themselves in the place where their most cherished memories are made.

If you’re looking for a Shelbyville family photographer to document your growing family in a way that feels relaxed, meaningful, and completely you, I’d love to chat. Whether it’s a cozy newborn session or a playful afternoon with your little ones, my goal is to capture your family’s story just as it is—beautiful, real, and full of love.

As a mom and a photographer, I know firsthand how unpredictable kids can be—especially when you’re hoping for that perfect family photo. One minute, they’re all smiles, and the next, they’re running off, refusing to cooperate, or suddenly so hungry they can’t function. Sound familiar?

I promise, it doesn’t have to be stressful! Over the years, I’ve learned a few tricks that help keep little ones engaged (and even excited) during a family photoshoot. My goal is always to create a fun, relaxed experience that brings out those natural, joyful moments. Here’s what works best:

1. Let Go of Perfection

First things first—real life is beautiful. Some of my favorite images come from moments when kids are just being kids. If they want to twirl, jump, or make silly faces, I say let them! The more relaxed they feel, the more natural and joyful the photos will be. Your child’s personality is what makes these photos special, and I want to capture them just as they are.

I totally get the desire for that one “perfect” shot where everyone is looking at the camera and smiling, and I always make sure to get a few of those. But often, it’s the in-between moments—the giggles, the snuggles, the way your little one reaches for your hand—that end up being the most meaningful.

2. Bring a Favorite Toy or Comfort Item

If your child has a stuffed animal they adore or a little lovey they can’t live without, bring it along! Not only does it help them feel secure, but I can also work it into the session in a sweet, sentimental way. Imagine looking back years from now and seeing your child with their beloved stuffed bunny or favorite blanket—that’s the kind of memory that tugs at your heartstrings.

Sometimes, I’ll even have kids “introduce” me to their special toy, which helps them feel more comfortable and gives us a fun way to break the ice at the beginning of the session.

3. Make It a Game

I love turning photos into a playful experience. We might do a “race to mama,” a tickle fight, or a big family group hug. These moments bring out the best giggles and create the most genuine smiles for even better photos!

I’ve found that kids respond so much better when they feel like they’re part of an adventure rather than being asked to “sit still and smile.” So don’t be surprised if I ask them to chase you, jump as high as they can, or whisper their silliest secret in your ear. Playfulness leads to the best candid moments!

4. Snacks = Lifesavers

A little snack break can work wonders! Small, non-messy treats (think fruit snacks, Cheerios, or mini marshmallows) can be a great way to keep energy up and moods happy. Bonus: They make great bribes—I mean, motivators.

I always suggest avoiding anything that melts, stains, or takes too long to chew, but a well-timed snack can be the key to getting just a few more happy moments out of a session.

5. Keep It Moving

Long, posed shots just aren’t realistic for little ones. I keep sessions flowing by moving quickly and changing things up often. We’ll play, explore, and interact rather than forcing stiff, unnatural poses.

This is where choosing the right location can make a big difference. Open fields, quiet parks, or cozy home sessions give kids the freedom to move while still allowing me to guide the session in a way that feels effortless and natural.

6. Hype Them Up Beforehand

I always tell parents to talk about the photoshoot like it’s something fun. Instead of saying, “You have to be good for pictures,” try, “We’re going to play and have so much fun taking pictures together!” Kids pick up on our energy—so if you’re excited, they will be too!

You can even let them help pick out their outfit or tell them they get to show off their best twirl, biggest jump, or silliest dance move for the camera. The more they feel like it’s something special, the more they’ll want to participate.

7. Trust the Process

Some kids take a little time to warm up, and that’s totally okay. I always follow their lead, and I promise we’ll capture beautiful moments, even if things feel a little chaotic. Some of the best photos happen when you least expect them!

I know how much these moments mean to you because I’ve been in your shoes. I’ve worried about whether my own child will cooperate, whether outfits will stay clean, or if the whole thing will just be a mess. But I can tell you this—every family session has moments of magic. Even when it feels like chaos, I see the love, the connection, and the beauty in your family just as you are.

At the end of the day, the goal is to capture your family as you are—laughing, playing, and soaking in the love you share. If you let go of expectations and embrace the moment, you’ll walk away with images that feel just as special as the memories behind them.

If you’re looking for a family photographer in Louisville who knows how to keep kids engaged and make the whole experience fun and stress-free, I’d love to work with you!

Whether you’re looking for an adventure with the kids, a little R&R, or something unique to shake up your routine, there are so many fun spring break activities near Louisville to explore. Here are some of my top picks for Kid-Friendly Spring Break Activities Near Louisville.

1. Take a Scenic Drive to Bernheim Forest

Nothing says spring like the first blooms of the season! Bernheim Forest is one of my favorite places to stretch my legs, soak up some sunshine, and let the little ones run wild. The forest is home to miles of walking trails, beautiful art installations (hello, giant wooden trolls!), and a peaceful atmosphere that makes you forget you’re just outside the city.

Some of my favorite childhood memories are from Bernheim, especially their annual ColorFest with my parents and sister. Now, as a photographer, I’ve had the joy of capturing countless sessions on their stunning property—and every visit still feels like a treat!

2. Explore the Louisville Zoo’s Wild Lights Festival

If you haven’t been to the Wild Lights Festival at the Louisville Zoo, spring break is the perfect time to check it out. Imagine walking through a glowing wonderland of oversized lanterns shaped like animals, flowers, and mythical creatures—pure magic! It’s one of those kid-friendly spring break activities near Louisville that’s just as enjoyable for adults as it is for kids.

3. Go on a Horse Farm Tour in Lexington

If you want to get out of town for the day, a drive to Lexington’s horse country is so worth it. There’s something about watching these beautiful animals up close that feels like a true Kentucky experience. Plus, the rolling hills and fresh air are the perfect escape from city life.

4. Have a Picnic at Waterfront Park

Sometimes, the simplest activities are the best ones. Grab a blanket, pack a lunch (or stop by one of the many local restaurants for takeout), and enjoy a picnic with a view of the Ohio River. Bonus points if you take a leisurely stroll across the Big Four Bridge to soak in the scenery!

5. Take a Day Trip to Mammoth Cave National Park

If your family loves adventure, why not explore the world’s longest cave system? Mammoth Cave National Park is about an hour and a half from Louisville and offers incredible underground tours for all ages. Just be sure to book in advance—spring break is a popular time for visitors!

6. Visit a U-Pick Farm for Strawberries

Is there anything sweeter than fresh-picked strawberries? Several farms near Louisville open for u-pick season in early spring, making this one of my favorite fun spring break activities near Louisville. It’s such a great way to enjoy the outdoors, and of course, the berries taste way better when you pick them yourself!

7. Try a New Ice Cream Spot

Spring break is the perfect excuse to treat yourself! Louisville Cream has some of the best ice cream spots, from classic scoops to wild flavors you won’t find anywhere else. Whether you’re a Comfy Cow loyalist or love trying out hidden gems, a little ice cream tour around the city is never a bad idea.

Louisville Cream holds a special place in my heart—not just for their incredible ice cream, but because they were my downstairs neighbors when I had my photography studio on Market Street. I’ll never forget the sweet, buttery aroma that would drift up into my space. And if you’re wondering, my go-to flavor is banana pudding… absolutely drool-worthy!

8. Take a Family-Friendly Bourbon Tour (Yes, Really!)

Hear me out—bourbon country isn’t just for the adults! Many distilleries offer family-friendly tours, where kids can learn about Kentucky history while you enjoy a tasting. Plus, the scenery at places like Maker’s Mark and Buffalo Trace is beautiful this time of year.

9. Catch a Louisville Bats Game

Nothing says spring like baseball! If your family loves sports, catching a Louisville Bats game at Slugger Field is a great way to spend an evening. Grab a hot dog, sit back, and enjoy the game while the kids cheer on the team.

There you have it—ten kid-friendly spring break activities near Louisville that will make 2025 one to remember! Why Family Photography is a Valuable Investment in Your Family’s Story | Family Photographer in Crestwood, KY

I remember those last few weeks before my baby girl arrived—equal parts exciting and overwhelming. Between setting up the nursery, checking off to-do lists, and trying to soak in every little kick, it was so easy to forget to slow down. If you’re in that same season, I can’t encourage you enough to take a night (or a few!) to step away from all the baby prep and just be together with your husband.

Before your world shifts in the most beautiful way, here are five Louisville date night ideas before baby to help you connect, relax, and make the most of these final moments as just the two of you.

1. A Cozy, Romantic Dinner at Jack Fry’s

There’s something so special about a slow, lingering meal—especially when you know that soon, dinner might look more like takeout eaten one-handed while rocking a baby. Jack Fry’s in the Highlands is one of my favorite spots for a romantic night out. The dim lighting, live jazz, and rich Southern flavors make it feel like a true treat. And if you’re anything like me, you’ll take full advantage of ordering exactly what you’re craving—because pregnancy cravings are no joke! If you’re looking for Louisville date night ideas before baby, this one is a must.

2. Take a Sunset Stroll at Waterfront Park

Some of my favorite conversations happened while we were just walking, dreaming about the future and what life would be like with our baby. A stroll along the Big Four Bridge at sunset is such a peaceful way to connect and talk about all the exciting changes ahead. Pack a cozy blanket, grab an ice cream from a nearby shop, and find a quiet spot by the river to just be together.

Plus, if you make it all the way to the Indiana side, treat yourself to some ice cream at Pearl Street Treats—because a sweet reward makes the walk even better! If it’s later in the evening, I love stopping by The Freeze Bar for some refreshing shaved ice. They have the friendliest staff and even some fun boozy options for those of you who aren’t pregnant!

3. Indulge in a Luxe Spa Day

Pregnancy is beautiful, but let’s be real—it’s also exhausting! By the third trimester, my feet were done, my back ached constantly, and I was more than ready for a little pampering. That’s why I always recommend a spa day for expecting parents as one of my favorite Louisville date night ideas before baby.

The Woodhouse Spa in Downtown Louisville is set to open in Spring 2025, and I personally cannot wait to try it out! In the meantime, there are several amazing spas in the area that offer prenatal massages to help you feel your best. Treat yourself to a massage while your partner enjoys a relaxation treatment—it’s the perfect way to unwind before baby arrives.

4. Catch a Show at The Kentucky Center

One thing I didn’t realize before becoming a mom? How rare uninterrupted nights out would become! If you and your partner love live music, theater, or comedy, take advantage of this time and book tickets for a show at The Kentucky Center for the Performing Arts. Whether it’s a Broadway performance, a symphony, or a stand-up comedian, it’s a fun and unique way to spend time together before late-night feedings take over.

5. Plan a Staycation at The Brown Hotel

There’s something about a night away from home that just makes everything feel more special. And the best part? You don’t even have to leave Louisville to make it happen! The Brown Hotel is a gorgeous, historic spot for a staycation where you can order room service, sleep in (one last time before those newborn wake-ups start!), and just enjoy a slower pace together.

If you’re looking for Louisville date night ideas before baby that feel extra indulgent, a one-night getaway is the perfect way to relax and reconnect before your little one arrives.
