Thunder Over Louisville is one of my favorite times of the year! The air show, the fireworks, the excitement—it’s all so magical. But if you’re like me, experiencing Thunder with little ones in tow means you need a game plan. Finding a spot that’s fun for the kids and keeps everyone happy can make or break the day. So, I’ve put together a list of the best family-friendly Thunder Over Louisville Spots in 2025 to help you have a stress-free and memorable experience!
1. (NEW!) Muhammad Ali Center’s Thunder Event
First on the list, a brand new spot for Thunder! For the very first time, the Muhammad Ali Center is hosting a special family-friendly event during Thunder Over Louisville. The Center will open its doors at 12 noon on Saturday, April 12, 2025, offering access to all exhibits, indoor restrooms, food and beverages for purchase, and various activities throughout the day. Multiple viewing areas for the air show and fireworks will be available, including the Brown-Forman Pavilion and the fifth-floor panoramic windows and plaza. Tickets are priced at $65 for adults and $50 for children.
If you’re looking for an elevated experience with stunning views, engaging activities, and a comfortable indoor option, this is a great new addition to Thunder Over Louisville!
2. Kentucky Science Center’s “ThunderBlast”
Kentucky Science Center’s ThunderBlast is one of the best Family-Friendly Thunder Over Louisville Spots in 2025! This exclusive, ticketed event offers a private viewing area for the air show and fireworks, plus access to the Science Center’s hands-on exhibits, making it perfect for families with young kids. With indoor restrooms, food options, and fun STEM activities to keep little ones entertained throughout the day, it’s a stress-free way to enjoy Thunder without the overwhelming crowds. If you’re looking for a fun, interactive, and comfortable spot to watch the show, ThunderBlast is a fantastic choice!
Pro tip: You can bring items like small backpacks, lawn chairs, blankets, and strollers for viewing the air show & fireworks. However, no tents, coolers, alcohol, drones, or pets (except service animals). Be sure to follow security guidelines and check their website for a hassle-free experience!
3. The Meijer Family Fun Zone at Waterfront Park (This one’s FREE!)
The Meijer Family Fun Zone is the perfect spot for families to enjoy Thunder Over Louisville 2025 with plenty of kid-friendly entertainment. Now located at Waterfront Park, this designated area offers inflatables, face painting, games, and interactive activities to keep little ones entertained all day. It’s a great way to let kids burn off some energy before settling in for the fireworks, all while enjoying a fun and festive atmosphere.
With easy access to food vendors, restrooms, and plenty of space to spread out, the Meijer Family Fun Zone makes Thunder more enjoyable for parents and kids alike. I will say, the viewing experience for the fireworks show could be better. It’s a little too far down the river in my opinion. But with free admission with a Pegasus pin, you can’t really complain. If you’re looking for a stress-free, fun-filled experience, this family-friendly zone is a must-visit!
Pro tip: Pack noise-canceling headphones for little ones! The fireworks can be loud, and having a way to muffle the sound can make a huge difference.
4. Falls of the Ohio State Park – A Hidden Gem
For a more relaxed, nature-filled Thunder experience, head over to Falls of the Ohio on the Indiana side. It’s not as packed as Waterfront Park, and the kids can explore the fossil beds and trails before the show starts. The fireworks view is still fantastic, but it feels a little more peaceful—perfect for families with younger kids.
Pro tip: Bring bug spray! Being near the water at night means mosquitoes will make an appearance.
5. Louisville Slugger Field’s Thunder Viewing Party (Great for Baseball Fans)
If you want to pair Thunder with America’s favorite pastime, Louisville Slugger Field hosts a family-friendly viewing party with a baseball game, activities, and a perfect view of the fireworks. It’s a ticketed event, but having actual seats (and bathrooms nearby) can make a world of difference when you’ve got little ones in tow.
Pro tip: Check the game schedule! Sometimes they offer post-game activities just for kids.
6. “Thunder at the Kentucky Center” at The Kentucky Center for the Performing Arts
Experience Thunder Over Louisville 2025 in style at the Kentucky Performing Arts Center’s “Thunder at the Center” event. This exclusive gathering offers attendees a comfortable indoor setting with panoramic views of the spectacular fireworks display. Guests can enjoy live entertainment, a variety of food and beverage options, and family-friendly activities throughout the day.
Located in the heart of downtown Louisville, the Kentucky Performing Arts Center provides an unparalleled vantage point for the day’s festivities. With amenities like climate-controlled indoor spaces, clean restrooms, and ample seating, it’s an ideal choice for families seeking a more relaxed and convenient Thunder experience.
Pro tip: Tickets are limited, so be sure to secure yours early to be part of this memorable event.
